Pops vs Shapes: Shopify Theme Review and Comparison for Food, Drink and Beauty Brands (2026)

9 min read

Summarize this article with AI

Our Shapes Shopify theme review next to Pops, its closest rival: pros and cons, features and price, with a full comparison table.

Pops and Shapes are two of the most colourful themes you can put on a Shopify store. Both were made for CPG (consumer packaged goods) brands that sell something you eat, drink or put on your face, and both trade the quiet, all-white look of most themes for bright colours, big type and movement.

They get there in different ways. Shapes is a mature Theme Store theme by Switch Themes, built around shape masks, stickers and food-label content like ingredients and nutrition facts. Pops is a newer theme from Trafik Plus, built on Shopify theme blocks, with physics effects, stories and a built-in bundle builder.

Pops is the more complete of the two. A bundle builder, cart upsells, a shareable cart link, a countdown timer, stories and a block-based page builder all come built in, where Shapes leaves bundles to an app and has no countdown timer or shareable cart link. Shapes still has the edge on a few things, like ingredient blocks, comparative scales, recently viewed products and breadcrumbs, and we cover those below.

Disclosure: we make Pops. Pops facts come from its documentation(opens in a new tab) and its code. Shapes facts come from its Theme Store listing(opens in a new tab) and release notes(opens in a new tab) as of 8 October 2026. Where Shapes is the better choice, we say so.

The short answer

  • Pick Pops if you want to sell bundles and boxes without an app, build pages from blocks, and stand out with motion: falling products, trails, stories and animated headings.
  • Pick Shapes if you want ingredient blocks, comparative scales and bar charts on your product pages, recently viewed products and breadcrumbs, or a theme you can buy today with years of updates and reviews behind it.

The full feature-by-feature table is at the end of this article.

Pops and Shapes at a glance

Shapes

Shapes(opens in a new tab) launched in 2022 and is now on version 5.0.1, released on 13 August 2026. It costs $420 as a one-time payment, holds a 99% positive rating from 86 reviews and ships five presets: Shapes (hot sauce and pantry goods), Fizz (soda), Candy (chocolate), Aura (skincare) and Scratch (pet supplies). The listing sums it up as “Move products fast with clever Shapes”: clouds and hearts as image masks, stickers, patterns, dividers, quick buy, ingredient icons, comparison tables and sliding flavour scales.

Pops

Pops is built for DTC and CPG brands and ships three presets: Pops (energy drinks), Lueur (makeup and skincare) and Scoop (high-protein cereal). Pops is in review by the Shopify Theme Store team, so it has no reviews yet. It will cost $400 as a one-time payment. It already has public documentation(opens in a new tab) in English and French.

Shapes Shopify theme review: pros and cons

Here is our take on each theme, before the detail.

Shapes: pros

  • Proven: on the Theme Store since 2022, with a 99% positive rating from 86 reviews.
  • A distinctive look built on shape masks, stickers and wavy dividers.
  • Food-label content: ingredient, usage and nutrition blocks, a comparative scale and a bar chart.
  • Recently viewed products and breadcrumbs.
  • Five presets across hot sauce, soda, chocolate, skincare and pet supplies.

Shapes: cons

  • No bundle builder, countdown timer or shareable cart link, so you will need apps for those.
  • Documentation in English only.
  • $420: the less complete and the more expensive of the two.

Pops: pros

  • A built-in bundle builder, cart upsells, a countdown timer and a shareable cart link.
  • Motion that stands out: falling products, cursor trails, stories and animated headings.
  • Pages built from Shopify theme blocks, with a nutrition table and Nutri-Score label on product pages.
  • Documentation and support in English and French.
  • $400, one time.

Pops: cons

  • New: still in review by the Shopify Theme Store team, with no reviews yet.
  • Three presets, against five for Shapes.
  • No recently viewed products or breadcrumbs.

Design and creative effects

This is where both themes earn their keep, and where they differ most.

Shapes works with shape. Product images sit inside clouds, hearts and other masks, sections are cut by wavy dividers, and stickers and patterns sit on top. Version 1.4 added a custom cursor and a mixed-shape product grid, version 2.0 a curved text section, and version 3.0 more shapes, patterns and stickers, plus sections like an image focus carousel and scrolling text with icons.

Pops works with motion. Its theme blocks(opens in a new tab) include falling content, where products drop and pile up with real physics, a trail effect of images that follows the cursor, floating media (including Lottie animations), rotating circle text and wavy scrolling text. Headings can animate by jumping letters, split letters, words or lines, buttons get four hover effects, and the cursor can leave a line or sparkle trail. The general settings(opens in a new tab) add page noise, a page frame, three border-radius schemes and an optional neumorphism style on cards and buttons.

Pops also has Instagram-style stories(opens in a new tab) with image and video slides, and a product page that can take on each variant’s colour: set one metafield per variant(opens in a new tab) and buttons, text, backgrounds and prices shift to that hue when the shopper switches flavour.

Page building

Shapes gives you dedicated sections, each with its own blocks, and version 5.0 sorted them into categories in the section picker. It is the familiar Online Store 2.0 model: pick the section that does what you need.

Shapes theme editor in the Shopify admin: the Image with text and Image with text overlay sections expanded into their blocks (Background shape, Shape divider, Sticker) next to a preview with a sticker, heading and icon list

Pops is built on Shopify theme blocks. Next to its dedicated sections, its Section(opens in a new tab) takes any theme or app block and lays them out in a column, a row or a grid, with separate desktop and mobile settings. You can nest a countdown, a Trustpilot rating, a carousel and a button in one section without code.

Pops theme editor in the Shopify admin, Zing energy drink preset: the Bento grid section expanded into nested theme blocks (Group, Text, Image) next to its preview, a fridge photo beside three subscription steps

If you want a page builder feel inside the theme editor, Pops gives you more freedom. If you prefer picking from ready-made sections, Shapes has more of them.

Product pages

Both themes show food-label content. Shapes splits it into dedicated blocks for ingredients, nutritional information, usage, an icon row, a comparative scale and a horizontal bar chart, and version 5.0 added a full Ingredients and nutrition section. It also offers product tabs, a size chart, a sticky add to cart, a no-preselect variant option and, on Shopify Plus, combined listings.

The Pops product information section(opens in a new tab) has a carousel or stacked gallery, thumbnails on the left or below, a zoom modal, 3D models, and pills or dropdowns with colour and image swatches. Its Table block has a nutrition table mode (“Nutritional information, per 100 g”) and can show the Nutri-Score label. A sticky add-to-cart bar follows the shopper down the page, a product metafield turns the button into Pre-order, and the variant picker supports combined listings and up to 2,048 variants per product. Badges come from a metaobject and can be scheduled with start and end dates(opens in a new tab), which helps with launches and limited drops.

Merchandising and order value

Here Pops does more without apps.

Both themes have a free shipping bar, quick add or quick buy, product recommendations, an age verification popup and a promo or newsletter popup.

Discovery: search, filters and navigation

Both themes cover the basics well: predictive search, filtering and sorting with price range and swatch filters, a mega menu and a sticky header. Shapes adds breadcrumbs, recently viewed products, in-menu promos and separate mobile and desktop header layouts. Pops opens search in a drawer(opens in a new tab) on every page and loads long collections with a View more button instead of page numbers.

Selling in several languages

Shapes ships storefront text in English, French, Italian, German and Spanish, and version 5.0 put country and language selectors in the header. Pops ships English storefront text that you edit or translate in Shopify, has country and language selectors, and is built with logical CSS properties so it works in right-to-left languages like Arabic and Hebrew.

For developers

Pops is written in vanilla JavaScript web components, uses GSAP for motion and exposes a JavaScript events API(opens in a new tab) for cart, variant, drawer, filter and search events. Shapes moved to an islands architecture and added theme events for developers in version 3.0.

Price, availability and support

Shapes costs $420, one time, with free updates through the Theme Store. Pops costs $400, one time, also with free updates through the Theme Store, so it is $20 cheaper while including more. As with any Theme Store theme, you will be able to try it for free and only pay when you publish.

The biggest practical gap today is trust. Shapes has four years of releases and 86 reviews. Pops is new, which means support straight from the team that built it, in English and French, but no reviews yet.

Which is the best Shopify theme for your food, drink or beauty brand?

Choose Pops if you sell drinks, snacks, supplements or beauty products and want boxes and bundles without an app, a page builder made of blocks, and a store that moves. It fits brands that run drops, sell multipacks and care about standing out on social traffic.

Choose Shapes if your product pages lean on ingredient lists, comparative scales and charts, if you want recently viewed products and breadcrumbs, or if you want a proven theme you can buy today.

If you are still choosing, our top 5 Shopify themes for beverage brands puts both next to three other options, our list of Shopify themes using theme blocks shows which other themes are built like Pops, and our Shopify themes page lists the themes we build.

How we compared

We make Pops. Pops features come from its documentation(opens in a new tab) and version 1.0.0 of its code. Shapes features come from its Theme Store listing(opens in a new tab) and its release notes(opens in a new tab) up to version 5.0.1, checked on 8 October 2026. When a feature is not on the listing or in the release notes, the table says “Not listed” rather than assuming it is missing. Prices are in US dollars.
