Which Shopify plan is cheapest for my store?
It comes down to three numbers: your monthly revenue, your average order value and the card rate you pay. A bigger plan costs more in subscription and less in card fees, so the cheaper subscription wins right up until the fee difference outgrows it. Put your own figures in above and the calculator shows every plan's monthly total side by side, with the cheapest called out.
At what revenue does Shopify Plus become cheaper than Advanced?
Later than most calculators say, if you go by Shopify's published rates. Plus buys a lower rate on online card payments, and that saving has to cover a much larger subscription first. The bar under the comparison shows the revenue at which each plan takes over from the one before it, using your average order value and your payment mix rather than a generic store.
Plus is also not flat forever. Past a revenue threshold its fee becomes a share of sales, up to a cap, so it can be cheaper in a narrow window, dearer above it, and cheaper for good only past the cap. The figure shown is the last crossing: the revenue past which the answer stops changing.
Why does this calculator recommend a different plan than the others?
Because it starts from Shopify's published Plus card rate rather than a negotiated one. Shopify quotes Plus merchants a rate below the list price, and that single number decides whether Plus beats Advanced. Other calculators assume a discount silently, which is how they end up recommending Plus. Here the list rate is the default, and if you are holding a quote you can enter it — the result then tells you which side of the line your quote falls on.
What does the monthly total include?
The subscription, billed monthly or yearly; Shopify Payments card fees online and in person; Shopify's surcharge on sales taken through another gateway; POS Pro for every location beyond the ones your plan includes; and, on Plus only, the apps its built-in features would replace.
What the other gateway charges you itself is in the total too, so the figure matches your own bookkeeping — but it is identical on every plan, so it never decides which plan wins.
What changes if I don't use Shopify Payments?
More than any other input. Shopify adds a surcharge to every sale it did not process itself, and that surcharge falls steeply as the plan gets bigger: a couple of percent on the entry plan, a fraction of a percent on Plus. Switch Shopify Payments off in the form — it is not offered in every country, and plenty of merchants stayed on a gateway they already had — and the recommendation often moves up a plan.
Is paying yearly actually cheaper?
Yes — Shopify discounts the monthly price when you pay for the year upfront, and the calculator uses the yearly-billed price by default. Switch to monthly billing to see both totals. The discount applies across the plans, so it rarely changes which one is cheapest; it changes what you pay.
Does it account for the apps Plus would replace?
It can, and it is often what tips a close call. Plus covers with its own features some of what merchants pay apps for — checkout customisation, B2B, automation. Enter what those apps cost you today and the calculator subtracts them from the Plus total only, since you would still be paying for them on every other plan.
Where do the prices come from?
From Shopify's own published pricing for the market you pick. The date the figures were last checked, and a link to the page they came from, sit under the results. Prices and card rates differ by country, so choose the market you actually sell in rather than converting from another one.
Can I save or share my result?
Every input is written into the page's address as you change it, so copying the URL copies your scenario. Send it to a colleague, or paste it back later, and the calculator opens on the same numbers.
